Our culture calls
“Hard men”.
and popular culture
once again
has the language
backward.

I grew up
In the 1980’s
Doing Ju-Jitsu
In Britain
Before it was properly liscenced.
___
The black belts
The fifth dan black belts
And higher..
___
THEY
Were what you can safely and accurately
Call
“Hard men”
___
They had the tools
To maim and kill people
In countless ways.
___
But
Held themselves
With a quietness.
That comes from
100% knowledge
Of their ‘power’.

In soccer
If a player breaks another’s leg
They get a reputation
For being a ‘hard’ man
___
But the reputation
Should be exactly the opposite.
___
The ONLY reason
A player will injure another
Is because they feel threatened
And
They have not got the strength of character
To battle their competitor
Within the rules of the game.
___
In ANY sport
Those that deliberately injure
Their competitors
Are the cowards.
___
They are so intimidated
By their competitor
They need to put them ‘out of the game’
___
That is not ‘hard’
It is the easiest thing to do.
___
What is vastly more challenging
And shows much more character
And could perhaps be labelled
“Hard”
___
Is
Beating the competitor
Fairly
Within the rules of the game.
